The Shearing Shed was born from a convergence of three essential elements: the economic challenges facing women on local farms, our region’s rich wool and mohair heritage, and my own lifelong passion for textiles. When I was offered my dream job in New York, I made the difficult—but deeply fulfilling—decision to turn it down. Instead, I chose a life rooted in slow, intentional living here on the farm, and that choice has shaped everything The Shearing Shed stands for.
Handwork is at the heart of what we do—it adds soul to each piece and is a sustainable, accessible skill for our rural women. This craftsmanship is central to our philosophy of empowering women, offering them financial independence no matter their location or family responsibilities.
Where Meaning & Makers Meet
Our team is comprised of talented artisans, crafters, and makers, all working together to create the finest textiles. While some of our team members work directly on the farm, others are located throughout the wool and mohair-producing regions of South Africa. Through our partnership with the Mohair Empowerment Trust, we offer workshops to develop crafting skills, bringing new opportunities to rural women.

Many of our pieces are crafted entirely by hand, but we also partner with specialists for technical processes where their expertise is most effective. This approach allows us to fully embrace the artistry of handwork while ensuring the highest standards of quality and durability.
