Where the earth gives and hands remember- Merino wool and Mohair, comfort in its truest form.

In the heart of South Africa's Merino and Mohair region, sheep and goats have evolved to thrive in one of the world's most extreme climates. With summer temperatures soaring above 40°C (104°F) and winter nights plunging to as low as -10°C (14°F), these remarkable animals rely on the adaptability of their fleece to stay comfortable. Their wool and mohair act as nature's built-in thermostats- insulating against the harsh cold while naturally cooling in the blistering heat. For over six generations our family has worked with these extraordinary fibres, honoring the legacy of resilience and quality they represent. Today, our team at The Shearing Shed working from the family farm proudly offer a curated collection of finished wool and mohair products.

Keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer.

  • Appearance

Both fibres, particularly mohair, have an exceptional affinity for dye, resulting in vibrant, rich colours.

  • Linen

As one of natures strongest fibres when cared for properly linen is long lasting and ages beautifully, becoming softer over time without losing its structure. Requiring fewer pesticides than other crops, a hypoallergenic fibre resistant to fungi and bacteria. Properties suited for table and household items.

  • Cotton

Our preferred fibre for babies and kids wear. Soft to the touch. Breathable, allowing air flow and an ideal garment for layering (especially important with babies to suit specific conditions ). Highly absorbent keeping the skin dry. Hypoallergenic for all sensitive skin types. Easy to care for and durable.

  • Silk

Silk is luxuriously smooth and lightweight, with a natural ability to regulate body temperature, much like wool. It wicks moisture, keeping you comfortable even in humid conditions. Known for its ethereal feel, silk offers a luxurious touch that synthetic fibres simply can’t match. When silk meets mohair, the result is luminous and lasting-beauty that doesn't need to shout.

Why Natural Fibres Matter: The Earth-Friendly Choice

Natural fibres are biodegradable, meaning they decompose naturally over time without leaving behind long-term pollutants. In contrast, synthetic fibres—produced from petrochemicals—can take centuries to break down and are a leading source of microplastic pollution. Each time a synthetic garment is laundered, it sheds microscopic fibres that enter wastewater systems and ultimately pollute rivers, oceans, and marine ecosystems.

Natural fibres, by comparison, offer a low-impact end-of-life path. Once discarded, they break down in soil and water without introducing persistent contaminants into the environment.

Beyond their environmental performance, natural fibres provide a sensory and functional connection to the natural world. They offer comfort, durability, and aesthetic appeal—products of both ecological origin and human craftsmanship. Unlike synthetic materials, they carry a legacy of renewability and a closer alignment with long-term ecological health.

Natural Fibres vs. Synthetics

Natural fibres are not only kinder to the environment but also unmatched in softness, comfort, and long-lasting durability.
While synthetic fibres may be low-maintenance, they lack breathability, often causing sweat buildup, and fail to stand the test of time
